A journey to meet Empress Jito

Asuka Kiyomihara Palace Ruins

This is where Empress Jito and Emperor Tenmu put their policies into action. Japan was rapidly becoming a formal nation with its own laws and codes. On this land, the remains of numerous palaces have been found, one layered atop the other. The cobblestone square and the water-well remains that can be seen here are reproductions of features that would have been seen in Empress Jito’s Kiyomihara Palace.
