Asuka Palace Ruins (Nochino-asuka-okamotono-miya)

This is where Empress Saimei’s palace was found and where Lady Nukata served the court. In her first stint as an empress, Saimei (then known as Empress Kogyoku) commissioned a palace to be built here. Later, on the same spot, Empress Jito also built a palace here. The remains of numerous palaces have since been found, one layered atop the other.
