Japan HeritageUneotsu-tamoto Shrine
Emperor Tenmu’s son Prince Takechi played a key role in the government. His consort, Princess Hinokuma, is said to have stopped here to pray for a long life for her husband. On the shrine precincts is a stone monument inscribed with a Man’yoshu poem written by Princess Hinokuma. The poem laments how her husband died and went to heaven in spite of her prayers to the goddess of resurrection.
