Japan HeritageTakamatsuzuka Kofun Murals
These colorful paintings, including the famous Asuka Bijin, are designated as a National Treasure. The Asuka Bijin conveys how women of the court dressed in those days, and it gives you an idea of how Lady Nukata must have looked. Excavations began here in 1972. In March of that year, archeologists discovered wall paintings that still retained their original vivid colors. This made headline news at the time as the biggest discovery in the history of Japanese archaeology.
