Japan HeritageMebuchi Waterfall
A goddess is said to live in the upstream section of the Asuka River. Legend has it that Empress Kogyoku prayed for rain here in 642. The waterfall drops five or six meters into a pool that’s more than six meters deep. The area has a mystical aura to it, with the waterfall creating an invigorating atmosphere. A further 1.5 kilometers upstream from here is Obuchi, a nine-meter-high waterfall.
