Japan HeritageIkazuchino-oka Toho Archaeological Site
It is believed that Oharidano-miya Palace once stood on this site. This is where Empress Suiko administered state affairs and established the Twelve-Level Cap and Rank System and the Seventeen-Article Constitution. Excavations have unearthed Nara Period earthenware inscribed with the characters for “Oharidano-miya”. Such findings suggest that Oharidano-miya, built during Suiko’s reign, existed here up until the Nara Period (late 8th century).
