Toyuradera Temple Site
Here on the grounds of Kogenji Temple are the ruins of what is believed to have once been Sakuraidera (also known as Toyuradera), the temple where Zenshin-ni resided after her return from Baekje. It is believed that Empress Suiko established Toyuradera on the former site of Toyurano-miya, which was where the imperial palace had stood until it was moved to Oharidano-miya. Excavations have revealed the remains of Toyuradera’s lecture hall on the grounds of Kogenji, while the remains of the main hall were found near the Toyo-ura Community Center to the south of Kogenji. And in a residential area a little further south, a large stone foundation of a pagoda’s central pillar was discovered.
